Phew. Have you got a spare lifetime or two to work this one out?
Well... what is 'life' - MY Life - YOUR Life?
I heard a speaker say once that it can be as insignificant as the dash (-) on a tombstone, signifying the day that individuals are born, and the day that they pass away (01/03/1922 - 22/06/2002).
That's not my idea of living my life... it must have more MEANING than that!
So who or what gives my life that meaning?
Who or what determines whether my life is successful or not?
These are surely the questions that many people are struggling with internally... some throughout their lives.
What is certain is that we are all born unique, with different backgrounds, different circumstances, experiencing different events in our lives affecting our very own unique definitions of what makes for a successful life.
Some use metaphors to explain their attitude to their lives.
Some say 'Life is a Journey... not a destination' - to prepare themselves to take a regular breather and enjoy the ride.
Some say 'Life is an Adventure' in recognition of their expectation of the unexpected to which they will need to react or respond.
Some say 'Life is a Rollercoaster Ride' in recognition of the peaks and valleys, successes and disappointments, ups and downs that affect everyone's lives.
Even
Forrest Gump's momma had her own metaphor: 'Life's a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get.'
Perhaps signifying for her that life is there to be tasted and enjoyed to the full in the realisation that you are not going to like some of the experiences as much as others.
I believe that this life is MY life, your life is YOUR life, and that our individual definitions of success may well be very different, and that I want to have as much control (power of choice) over MY chosen direction, journey, adventure in life as I can.
I'm guessing then that I have a lot to do with taking personal responsibility for giving MY life true meaning or finding/discovering MY true purpose in life.
Makes life interesting, huh. Certainly not boring.
